Rand Paul: “American Jewry” may start voting Republican

Daily Paul - Sun, 2015-03-08 03:32 +0000

From Salon, via EPJ:

The senator [Rand Paul] added that tensions in the relationship between President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could lead Jews to abandon the Democratic Party.

“I think that should send a message to a lot of American Jewry that really the time to think about who supports Israel is now,” he said.

A glimpse of rebirth and new beginnings

Daily Paul - Sun, 2015-03-08 03:22 +0000

Today in Kansas City the temperature hit 70 degrees. It was a gorgeous day with a brilliant sun and just a few high level wispy clouds. I cleared out some leaves from the landscaped area around the house and noticed tulips and daffodils peaking through the ground.

Two pots my wife had left on the back deck over the winter had chives and thyme (on which we'd given up after leaving out through a hard frost last fall) coming back to life... Spring (while I'm sure a premature glimpse in my local area) provides the same "new" perspective for me every year.

Everything's starting over... Seemingly-dead things rise and live again and new generations spring up to replace previous ones.

Positive vibes abound. It's time for reawakening and new growth.

Cultivate it! In your soil, and in your soul!

And if you're good enough... in others.

UC-Irvine student council bans American flag as possible "hate speech"

Daily Paul - Sun, 2015-03-08 03:13 +0000

On Thursday, the University of California at Irvine student body government voted to ban all flags from the common lobby area of student government offices. This includes the American flag.

In a 6 to 4 vote, with two abstentions, the resolution was passed by the UC Irvine student legislative council. The bill argues that flags harbor much cultural significance, and in some instances they can elicit negative associations.

Florida Deputy Shoots Unarmed Man In Face While Serving Pot Warrant

Daily Paul - Sun, 2015-03-08 03:03 +0000

This poor dude had less than 1/2 of a pound, and $3000. But, since he allegedly "advanced in a menacing way" at an officer (even though he was unarmed and shirtless) he took a bullet to the face. Still blows my mind that this happens and is considered lawful because of a plant that grows naturally all over the earth.

by Andy Campbell | The Huffington Post | 03/05/15

A Volusia County Sheriff's deputy shot an unarmed man in the face while serving a drug warrant on Wednesday.

Deputies say Derek Cruice, 26, resisted arrest during the incident at his Deltona, Florida home. Cruice's friends, six of whom were at the house when a SWAT team entered, called the fatal shooting "murder."

At 6:32 a.m., Deputy Todd Raible, 36, fired one shot, hitting Cruice in the face as he stood inside the doorway, police told WFTV. Cruice was pronounced dead a short time later at an area hospital.

States Move To Ban Powdered Alcohol (Palcohol) Before It Can Hit the Shelves

Daily Paul - Sun, 2015-03-08 02:33 +0000

From the Palcohol Website:

"Many states are moving to ban powdered alcohol before it even is approved for sale. Why? Because the liquor industry is against it and they want to squash competition and protect their market share. The liquor companies have lots of money to lobby for what they want and we are no match for their deep pockets. But should big money be allowed to make the laws?

Rand: Kentucky clears path for dual run

Daily Paul - Sun, 2015-03-08 01:45 +0000

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul took his first step toward running for president with state party leaders on Saturday endorsing his plan for a presidential caucus in 2016.The move clears the way for Paul to run for president and for re-election to his Senate seat without breaking a state law that bans candidates from appearing on the ballot twice in the same election. The state GOP's central committee must still sign off on the proposal in August.

But, more importantly for Paul, Saturday's vote by the Republican Party of Kentucky's executive committee was an early endorsement of his unusual plan for dual campaigns ahead of a wide open Republican presidential primary."I just want to be treated like many other candidates around the country who have not been restricted," Paul told reporters after the vote.

Paul has characterized himself as a "different kind of Republican," and campaigning for two offices at once would certainly set him apart among the Republican field. Of the numerous potential Republican candidates, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida is the only one also up for re-election in 2016.

Another Dubious Jobs Report

Daily Paul - Sun, 2015-03-08 01:16 +0000

by Paul Craig Roberts

According to the payroll jobs report today (March 6) the economy created 295,000 new jobs in February, dropping the rate of unemployment to 5.5%. However, the BLS also reported that the labor force participation rate fell and the number of people not in the labor force rose by 354,000.

In other words, the unemployment rate dropped because the labor force shrunk.

If the economy was in recovery, the labor force would be growing and the labor force participation rate would be rising.

The 295,000 claimed new jobs are highly suspect. For example, the report claims 32,000 new retail jobs, but the Census Bureau reports that retail sales declined in December and January. Why would retailers experiencing declining sales hire more employees?

In a nutshell

Daily Paul - Sun, 2015-03-08 00:11 +0000

Here's an excerpt from a speech by Patrick Barron given today (3/7/15) at Drake University at the annual convention of the Iowa Association of Political Scientists. The whole speech is excellent, but this paragraph struck me as being the very heart of the problem with our economic system. A wonderfully clear and concise explanation.

"The underlying problem, though, lies in the ability of all central banks to print fiat money; i.e., money that is backed by nothing other than the coercive power of the state via its legal tender laws. Central banks are really little more than legal counterfeiters of their own currencies. The pressure to print money comes from the political establishment that desires both warfare and welfare. Both are strictly capital consumption activities; they are not “investments” that can pay a return. In a sound money environment, where the money supply cannot be inflated, the true nature of warfare and welfare spending is revealed, providing a natural check on the amount of funds a society is willing to devote to each. But in a fiat money environment both war and welfare spending can expand unchecked in the short run, because their adverse consequences are felt later and the link between consumptive spending and its harm to the economy is poorly understood. Thus, both can be expanded beyond the recuperative and sustainable powers of the economy."

Genetically-Engineered Meat Isn’t Tested for Human Safety … Because It’s Treated as an “Animal Drug”

Daily Paul - Sat, 2015-03-07 18:57 +0000

http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2013/02/genetically-engineere...

Eater Beware …

USA Today reported last October that the FDA doesn’t even test the safety of genetically engineered food:

Q: Does the FDA test these foods before they’re allowed on the market?

A: No. Instead there is a voluntary consultation process. Genetically engineered foods are overseen by the FDA, but there is no approval process. Foods are presumed to be safe unless the FDA has evidence to the contrary, Jaffe says. The FDA “has to show that there may be a problem with the food, as opposed to the company needing to prove it’s safe to FDA’s satisfaction before it can get on the market,” he says.

Now we know why.

Bruce Friedrich reports:

The problems begin with FDA’s bizarre decision to consider GE meat using its “New Animal Drug Approval” (NADA) process, a process designed for evaluation of new animal drugs (hence the name), not genetically engineered animals. The GE salmon themselves [which increase allergies in people eating them … but are still being approved for human consumption] are, according to this analysis, the animal drug. As food blogger Ari LeVaux explains on Civil Eats, “the drug per se is AquaBounty’s patented genetic construct… Inserted at the animal’s one-cell stage, the gene sequence exists in every cell of the adult fish’s body.”

The Frog and the Pothole

Daily Paul - Sat, 2015-03-07 17:10 +0000

Speaking of parables, here's one for you*:

- - -

One day Frog fell into a big pothole and couldn’t get out. It was too deep. Try as he might, he just couldn’t muster the energy to jump out of the hole. His friends, seeing the situation for what it was, bid Frog adieu and went on their way.

"So long, Frog. It was nice knowing you."

The next day they saw Frog, happily hopping around, going about his business.

“What happened, Frog? We thought you couldn’t get out!”
