Mesh networks can guarantee real net neutrality

Daily Paul - Tue, 2015-03-10 05:33 +0000

The recent Net neutrality victory at the FCC is not a silver bullet. We can expect costly court challenges, complicated enforcement, and the risks that come with entrusting a large government bureaucracy to manage a technological problem. More competition would be a better solution.

Paul, Booker, Gillibrand to Introduce Medical Marijuana Bill

Daily Paul - Tue, 2015-03-10 03:34 +0000

Sens. Rand Paul, Cory Booker and Kirsten Gillibrand will introduce on Tuesday a Senate bill that would legalize medical marijuana under federal law, another possible step towards relaxation of once strict policies toward the drug.

The Kentucky Republican and his New Jersey and New York Democratic colleagues will propose legislation that allows states that have passed medical marijuana laws to enact those programs without operating illegally under federal law. That bill would also allow veterans in states with medical marijuana programs to receive care from the government, according to guidance issued by their offices.

Some thought the military had occupied downtown Spokane on 3/6/15. They were relieved when they found it was the local 63 Lightfoot militia, standing guard to make sure the Federal Government did not step out of line. Watching over families, children and patriots.

You have the right to bear arms, just not “electrical” arms, court declares

Daily Paul - Mon, 2015-03-09 20:37 +0000

Ruling comes as all types of weapons are being constructed in homes via 3D printers.

by David Kravets | Ars Technica | March 8, 2015

Massachusetts' ban on the private possession of stun guns—an "electrical weapon" under the statute—does not violate the Second Amendment right to bear arms, the state's top court has ruled.

The decision says (PDF) that the US Constitution's framers never envisioned the modern stun-gun device, first patented in 1972. The top court said stun guns are not suitable for military use, and that it did not matter whether state lawmakers have approved the possession of handguns outside the home.

Nevertheless, we note that stun guns deliver a charge of up to 50,000 volts. They are designed to incapacitate a target by causing disabling pain, uncontrolled muscular contractions, and general disruption of the central nervous system.... It is difficult to detect clear signs of use and misuse of stun guns, unlike handguns. Stun guns can deliver repeated or prolonged shocks without leaving marks. ...The Legislature rationally could ban their use in the interest of public health, safety, or welfare. Removing from public access devices that can incapacitate, injure, or kill a person by disrupting the central nervous system with minimal detection is a classic legislative basis supporting rationality. It is immaterial that the Legislature has not banned weapons that are more lethal. Mathematical precision by the Legislature is not constitutionally required.

Green Grass and Spring Time in Michigan

Daily Paul - Mon, 2015-03-09 20:31 +0000

It was an especially frigid winter here in Central Michigan, it was just a week or so ago the temperature was in the teens and was still 20 or so degrees warmer than the previous day. But yesterday for the first time since November I was able to see grass in the front yard, and today there was even more grass showing than yesterday!

Since the backyard is connected to an open field we get a lot of drifting snow so it will be a bit before the backyard shows any signs of grass.

Chelsea Manning in the Guardian: The CIA's torturers and the leaders who approved their actions must face the law

Daily Paul - Mon, 2015-03-09 19:53 +0000

Even the most junior level intelligence officers know that torture is both unethical and illegal. So why didn’t our political leaders?

by Chelsea E. Manning | The Guardian

Successful intelligence gathering through interrogation and other forms of human interaction by conventional means can be – and more often than not are – very successful. But, even though interrogation by less conventional methods might get glorified in popular culture – in television dramas like Law and Order: Criminal Intent, 24 and The Closer and movies like Zero Dark Thirty – torture and the mistreatment of detainees in the custody of intelligence personnel is, was and shall continue to be unethical and morally wrong. Under US law, torture and mistreatment of detainees is also very illegal.

Even the most junior level intelligence officials know that this is, and has been, the case for decades.

Yet, despite such knowledge, in response to the horrific attacks on the US in New York, Virginia and over Pennsylvania on 9/11, the US developed and applied techniques (now public knowledge due to the recent US Senate report commonly referred to as the Senate Torture Report) that sought to inflict severe mental pain and suffering, or the threat of pain and suffering, on detainees in the custody of the CIA and portions of the Department of Defense. These programs were administered by officers acting under the color of law.

Rand “Pauluses and Minuses" - Netanyahu, Sheldon Adelson, “Parks & Rec”

Daily Paul - Mon, 2015-03-09 19:51 +0000

Welcome back to a new edition of Rand "Pauluses and Minuses" where I gauge the actions of the presumed 2016 Presidential candidate and assign them a positive or negative grade. This week, let's start with the non-emphatic "clap heard 'round the world."

Rand Dispassionately Claps for Netanyahu Speech

Rand Paul's response to the speech given by Netanyahu calling for an alteration to the deal that the U.S. had on the table with Iran regarding its nuclear program garnered as much coverage as the speech itself. As you can see, Rand did participate in applauding Bibi's statements, as he's largely thrown his lot in with the Neocon crowd where Israel is concerned, but didn't go out of his way to look overly enthused.

Rand Paul Signs Cotton Letter, Seeking to Sabotage Iran Negotiations 3/9/15

Daily Paul - Mon, 2015-03-09 19:37 +0000

Rand Paul has officially "made peace with the War Party" says Justin Raimondo of Antiwar.com.

Justin has, up till now, defended Rand Paul's sometimes disappointing statements by pointing to his actual voting record and actions. His argument was strong and even swayed me from giving up on him altogether.

But here is a real concrete action. Rand Paul has officially put his name into a hideous letter that seeks to completely undermine the Iran negotiations and open the doors to further sanction and war.

As Justin says, in a statement of incredible disappointment and frank surprise, this is Rand Paul's "Munich."

One Man Holds a PATENT That Could Crush MONSANTO and Change The World

Daily Paul - Mon, 2015-03-09 17:22 +0000

We can no longer deny that the pesticide industry is causing incredibly detrimental effects to the earth, people, animals, plants & insects too. The rapid decline of the world’s bee populations is being attributed to Monsanto’s chemical concoctions that are being sprayed over farmers fields around the world. (Though the number of countries who have kicked out & banned Monsanto is growing) The use of chemical pesticides is a practice that absolutely must stop and new methods must be employed before it’s too late.

Yet with Monsanto generating nearly $16 BILLION dollars in 2014, they certainly do not want anything getting in the way of that money flow. That kind of revenue gives them a lot of resources and abilities to suppress information that may be damaging to them.

IG Audit: 6.5 Million People With Active Social Security Numbers Are 112 or Older

Daily Paul - Mon, 2015-03-09 16:29 +0000

(CNSNews.com) - Many people are living longer, but not to age 112 or beyond -- except in the records of the Social Security Administration.

The SSA's inspector general has identified 6.5 million number-holders age 112 -- or older -- for whom no death date has been entered in the main electronic file, called Numident.

The audit, dated March 4, 2015, concluded that SSA lacks the controls necessary to annote death information on the records of number-holders who exceed "maximum reasonable life expectancies."

Judicial Watch in Center of Clinton Email Storm

Daily Paul - Mon, 2015-03-09 15:38 +0000

JW in Center of Clinton Email Storm

What some in the media describe as “an obscure court filing” has exploded onto the national scene in the form of a growing scandal over Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email account to conduct government business. Revelations that then-Secretary of State Clinton conducted all of her official business on a personal email account have dominated national headlines this week, and your Judicial Watch is once again in the center of the storm. I have no doubt that it was Judicial Watch’s focused Freedom of Information lawsuits, the disclosures from which led to the creation of the House Select Committee of Benghazi, which led to the uncovering of a scandal that could have criminal ramifications for Mrs. Clinton.

We knew something was up. And we had gotten hints in our blockbuster litigation that uncovered the smoking-gun documents showing Hillary’s top aides at State knew that the Benghazi terrorist attack had nothing to do with “demonstrations” or Internet videos. As Politico noted this week, there is no doubt JW’s litigation was front and center as the seven-year cover-up of Hillary’s secret emails was unraveling:

Russia (Finally) Secures a Warm Water Port from Cyprus

Daily Paul - Mon, 2015-03-09 08:05 +0000

Since forever. That's how long Russia has desired a Mediterranean port for its navy. Certainly no 'match' for the U.S. Navy in number and size but, it's not ABOUT projecting a military 'footprint' around the globe anymore. One can argue weapons technology has rendered Navies 'obsolete' anyway. (submarines excepted).
It's about global trade, the Suez canal and 'projecting' its own prosperity and access to markets. Selling oil. Shipping lanes and access to goods.. and protecting that merchant fleet with a modest capability.
